ABOUT ME

I started my journey supporting mothers with one goal in mind: to help women have a positive birth experience. I soon realized that a positive birth experience was much more involved than holding her hand.
So, Authentic Birthing was born.

What I am all about

autonomy, individualized care, informed choices, mom’s instincts, taking charge, birth satisfaction

I was that first-time mom, that believed staying out of the hospital, hiring a doula, and attending the free classes was enough to ensure a positive birth. I thought I could ignore and avoid some my fears instead of face them. But the reality hit hard. Labor's intensity caught me unprepared and my partner struggled to support me. Here I learned the amazing role of a doula and just how incredible their knowledge can be. Within an hour of my daughter's arrival, I would learn even more. I was transferred to the hospital, confronting the very fears I'd hoped to sidestep. There, I faced medical pressure and coercion, reluctantly agreeing to procedures I'd being fighting to decline. Due to complications, they reverted back to my original request for care, but by then the damage was already done. I left that hospital with such anger and trauma. I deserved better.

Then I was a second-time-mom, determined to make different choices. I faced my fears, making choices out of confidence and because they were the right decision for me. I invested in my birth and was much more educated about birth and how to advocate for myself. Instead of being afraid, I was confident and excited. I looked forward to labor and anxiously awaited for it to begin. All of my preparation paid off and that birth was both transformative and healing.

My second daughter came flying out of me like a shooting star in the most phenomenal birth experience.
I WANT YOU TO HAVE THAT TOO.
